This project develops robust iterative methods for non-smooth and constrained variational problems by combining classical numerical analysis with machine-learning components. It focuses on adaptive parameter selection, improved initial iterates, and automated solver strategies, with the aim of increasing reliability and computational efficiency for challenging variational models in mathematics and physics.

DOC-TWIN: Duality-Based Error Control for Optimal Control Problems in Digital-Twin-Based Structural Health Monitoring

This project develops a (discrete) convex-duality-based framework for error control of optimal control problems in digital twins for structural health monitoring of civil infrastructure. It aims to derive new a posteriori and a priori error identities that enable adaptive mesh refinement, rigorous error control, and certified nonlinear solvers for reliability-critical simulations.
